Sustainable Commitment Award

Sponsored by Tourism Industry Aotearoa

This award seeks to recognise innovations and initiatives by Holiday Parks that contribute to economic community, visitor and/or environmental sustainability.

The winner of this award will be announced at the Holiday Park Awards on 30 July 2026 and receives a trophy to keep as well as a complimentary ticket to TIA’s Tourism Summit Aotearoa and New Zealand Tourism Awards Dinner 2026.

What the Judges are looking for
  • Judges are looking for a park that has embraced innovation and taken meaningful, deliberate steps toward sustainability – whether that’s economic, environmental, or community-focused. They want to see more than a good idea; they want evidence of something that has been thoughtfully implemented, carefully evaluated, and sustained over time.
  • A strong entry will demonstrate real leadership, show how the initiative is woven into the way the business operates, and back it up with measurable results. If you can also show where you’re heading next and how you plan to get there, even better.
Eligibility
  • This award is open to a Holiday Park only. Joint or group submissions will not be accepted.
  • The Holiday Park must be a full financial member of Holiday Parks New Zealand.

Entry Questions

Tell us a little about your organisation and make the case for why you should win this award. Use this statement to give a sense of who you are as a business and why sustainability and innovation are central to the way you operate.
Give us a clear overview of your innovation or initiative - describe it as you would to someone who has never heard of it before, so judges can fully understand what it is and why it matters. Tell us when it began and how it has evolved over time and share how you communicate it to your guests and staff. We'd also love to understand how it aligns with the principles of the New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment - please reference any of the 12 Commitments that are relevant to your initiative, such as reducing carbon emissions, supporting local communities, or enhancing visitor experiences.
Describe how the innovation or initiative has been embedded into your day-to-day operations to ensure its long-term success - whether that's through standard procedures, staff training, or both. Tell us how it has improved the efficiency or effectiveness of your business, through time savings, cost reductions, streamlined processes, or better use of resources. We'd also value hearing what operational challenges it addressed and how you have measured its success along the way.
Share the real-world impact your initiative has achieved over a sustained period of time, backed by tangible and quantifiable results. Tell us how it has made a difference to your operations, your community, or the environment, and include before and after metrics where you can. We'd especially love to hear about any benefits achieved beyond what was originally expected. Let us know how you plan to sustain or expand the initiative in the future, and if this innovation is something that could be made available for other holiday park owners to implement.
